If two vectors $A$ and $B$ are given then Range of their resultant can be written as $(A - B) \le R \le (A + B)$.

i.e. ${R_{\max }} = A + B$ and ${R_{\min }} = A - B$

If $B = 1$ and $A = 4$ then their resultant will lies in between $3\,N$ and $5\,N$. It can never be $2\,N$.
